A new “mobile” paint-your-own-pottery studio has been launched in the canton of Vaud.

Called Doodlepotz, the studio was launched just a few months ago, by local mompreneur, Lucy Gottelier. A former management consultant with worldwide experience on fast-changing projects, Lucy decided to launch her own business in Switzerland after taking a career break to start her own family and and working as a part-time paint-you-own-pottery teacher whilst living in the US!

Lucy told us, “When our family moved to Coppet in 2016, I had the good fortune to meet life coach, Milena McRae, who inspired me to think hard about what I really wanted in life. I soon discovered that painting pottery was a passion that I was keen to continue so, in May 2017, Doodlepotz was born – a name inspired by the family’s new puppy, an Australian Labradoodle!

Lucy trained with UK-renowned Paint-your-own-pottery expert, Rachel Byass, and she is supported behind the scenes by the artist and teacher Joanna Foray-Mason, previous owner of "Glazy Days" in Coppet. She is also a member of multiple professional Paint-your-own-pottery Facebook groups, and she actively looks to share best practices across these networks.

Wide range of services

Lucy has spent the first few months at Doodlepotz traveling around the La Côte region of Lake Geneva organizing birthday parties, small group activities, special commissions for weddings, christenings, leaving events and teacher appreciation gifts....

In short, her business provides 5 main activities:

  • Birthday parties - Doodlepotz will take the worry out of organizing your child’s party and come to your house! Lucy will take care of everything from helium balloons for the kids and a personalized plate or bowl for the birthday boy or girl and, of course, the pottery painting activity.
  • Events - All you need to do is get a group of people together, whether children and their carers, or adults, and Doodlepotz will bring everything you need for your painting session.
  • Commissions -  These are a great idea if you have an upcoming wedding or anniversary celebration and would like to offer a really unique gift!  If you can’t decide what they would like, then offer a Doodlepotz gift voucher and let them create their own!
  • Adult workshops - Visit the Doodlepotz website to keep an eye out for new dates as they are announced. The next workshop will be a special evening to create your own "Christmas platter".
  • Doodlepotz “To go” box - For a refundable deposit, you can take the entire, “paint-your-own pottery” kit away to a place of your choosing. So if you are organizing a group activity for your business, looking for activities to offer at a Christmas fair, or simply want to get creative on your own at home, just give Lucy a call!

Who will like Doodlepotz?

Doodlpotz can be enjoyed by all ages – just think baby footprints on a special plate or mug, all the way up to decorated plates and mugs for the older generation. Paint-your-own-pottery is an extremely mindful activity, which adults and children alike can get totally immersed in.

With two kids of her own, Lucy commented, “In this age of technology, our children need as much opportunity as possible to get involved in creating something with their own hands, seeing the fruits of their labors come to life with careful glazing and firing!”

What can you paint?

Doodlepotz offers many different items of unpainted pottery including mugs, bowls, plates, animal figures, trinket boxes, vases, planters, tea pots and jugs. Prices are all-inclusive and cover glazing and firing, and start at Fr. 15.-.

Once painting is complete, each item is carefully glazed and fired in Doodlepotz’s state-of-the-art kiln, and is delivered back to the customer. This process takes on average one week and renders the item food-safe, as well as microwave- and dishwasher-proof.

Christmas workshops

With Christmas on the horizon, Lucy has organized two festive workshops, one on Thursday 16th November 2017 and the other on Tuesday 28th November, both starting at 8pm, focused on creating your own “Christmas platter” to wow your guests this holiday season.

Priced at just Fr. 50.- , the sessions will take place in Coppet, Vaud, in the evenings and will include all materials, ceramic square or round plate, glazing, and firing, as well as mince pies and mulled wine to get those creative juices flowing!
