This summer, GAOS Youth brings the extraordinary story of Charlie Chaplin to the stage in Chaplin: The Musical. Inspired by the life of one of the world’s greatest entertainers, the show follows Chaplin from his childhood in the poverty of Victorian London to his rise as a global film star. It celebrates the creation of his legendary films and the iconic Little Tramp, while also revealing the more complicated story behind the laughter – a man whose extraordinary success did not always translate into happiness. With a vibrant score, comedy, drama and plenty of classic Chaplin magic, it’s a fascinating story of ambition, resilience, creativity and the price of fame.
What makes this production particularly special is that it is being performed by GAOS Youth, giving talented young performers the chance to take on a major musical and bring this remarkable story to life. The production involves young people both on stage and behind the scenes, developing their confidence, creativity and theatrical skills along the way. Chaplin is an ambitious show, demanding strong acting, singing, movement and storytelling – and GAOS Youth is rising to the challenge. It’s a wonderful opportunity to see the next generation of performers tackle a big, demanding production and make it their own.
Based on the real-life story of Charlie Chaplin, the iconic film actor, writer, producer and director. The musical spans the comic's entire career, from his first performance as a child in 19th-century London to his tearful acceptance of an honorary Academy Award in 1972.
It dramatises the making of his legendary films, telling the touching story of the man who makes the world laugh as his legendary screen persona, the Tramp, but struggles to find happiness in his own life.
This show is being put on by the Youth Group from GAOS! The Director, Arthur Mitchell, is 18. The cast are all 15 to 19 years old. The choreographer is a 19 year-old training at ballet school in London… so there is a good story behind the play. Sam Fiore plays Charlie Chaplin in the GAOS performance of the show.
Chaplin the Musical is suitable for audiences of all ages.
However, the story covers the real-life biography of Charlie Chaplin including themes such as poverty, political exile, and personal relationships. We therefore recommend it for children aged 8+.
