Léman Golfique by BTL

After three successful coffee table books were published by BTL since 2012, our readers will be excited to learn of another one due to be released in a few months: Léman Golfique. Sandor Szabados, Managing Director of BTL- Beyond the Lens Publishing Sàrl, catches up with us to let us know of his latest endeavour. And read on to enter our competition to win a copy!

What is the theme of the newest coffee table book?
Many years ago, I played at Cypress Point in California and was given a beautiful photo book featuring the 7 iconic courses of the Monterey Peninsula. This gift inspired me to, hopefully one day, create a similar book showcasing the exceptional scenery of the golf courses around our Lake Geneva region.

Having played on 177 golf courses in 25 countries, I have accumulated countless photographic memories, but none capture this stunning scenery of snow-capped mountains, lakes, rivers, and rolling pastures, all here at our doorstep.

When did you start taking and interest in photography?
I was born and raised in Australia and I received my first camera when I was only 12 years old. From that moment on, photography became my passion and my way to capture beauty. Several years later, I found myself photographing sports as a freelance contributor to Surfing World magazine. I earned a degree in graphic arts from the University of New South Wales and joined DuPont de Nemours in its Photographic Products division.

Three years later, I was transferred to their European headquarters in Geneva for a two-year management training program. This “short-term assignment” turned into a 20-year career, during which I held marketing positions across a wide range of industries in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa

At the end of those two decades, I seized the opportunity for a management buyout of DuPont’s in-house printing facility, thereby creating BTL - Graphic Arts Printing Services.

What inspired you to start the publishing of books?
In February 2012, I decided to produce my first coffee table book, Léman Arctique - Ice Storm. When none of the six publishers I contacted showed the slightest interest, it was out of this necessity that BTL - Beyond the Lens Publishing was born.

Since then, we have published three coffee-table books:

Léman Arctique-Ice Storm (19,000 copies)
Béjart Ballet World Tour (3,000 copies)
Federesque (10,000 copies)

Léman Golfique has been created with genuine passion for photography and for the natural landscapes artistically framed by golf architects. Every club has generously contributed their time, providing historical texts and access to its photography.

At no point was this project intended to exploit the clubs or their members. I just wanted to showcase the beautiful lakeside positions of the courses, rolling sceneries, and the most stunning courses in the Lake Geneva region.
