École Mosaic, one of the leading bilingual and multicultural primary school in Geneva's Champel neighborhood, has recently announced the opening of a bilingual Middle School from August 2026. This marks a major new stage in the school’s development and responds to strong demand from families seeking continuity beyond primary education in a genuinely bilingual, academically ambitious, and values-driven environment.
The fruit of four years of careful planning and development, the new secondary school will follow the Swiss local curriculum (Plan d’études romand – PER), enriched by a robust bilingual programme. Non-anglophone students will be supported to exceed PER requirements in English, while anglophone students will be guided towards the academic standards of the Cambridge International Curriculum.
Students will benefit from an enhanced timetable, with:
- Mathematics
- Science and History/Geography taught both in French and English
- Arts, Music and Theatre will be delivered exclusively in English, reinforcing fluency through creative expression
- English language instruction will represent six teaching periods per week, well above PER requirements
By the end of Middle School, students will have acquired the academic foundations and language proficiency required to access the main post-compulsory pathways in Geneva, as well as international or French secondary schools.
The Middle School will target the R3 level, corresponding to the highest academic expectations within the Geneva system. Admission will be selective and based on clear academic criteria at the end of primary school, ensuring a coherent learning group, high standards, and an environment that allows each student to reach their full potential. Recent changes to the laws regarding cross-border students also mean that École Mosaic Middle School will be a great option for families living in neighbouring France who no longer have access to public Cycles d’orientation, but want their children to continue studying the Swiss programme.
True to École Mosaic’s educational philosophy, the Middle School will combine academic rigour with a personalised, human-scale approach. Small class sizes, high expectations, and close relationships between students and teachers will foster intellectual curiosity, autonomy and critical thinking. Teaching will emphasise active learning, strong methodological skills and the ability to work confidently in both languages. Particular importance will be placed on students’ social and emotional development during adolescence, with the Middle School offering a structured and supportive framework, recognising that emotional security is a prerequisite for academic success.
Each student will be supported by a dedicated form teacher who will act as mentor and key point of contact for both students and families, ensuring consistent academic monitoring, personalised guidance and strong communication across the school community. In addition, a well-being and personal development counsellor will provide a confidential listening space, supporting students in managing emotions, relationships and the pressures associated with adolescence.
Conscious of recent developments in international Geneva, École Mosaic have designed the Middle School to be an affordable option for local and international parents, with school fees much lower than many of the established options in the Geneva area.
