That's it! The corrections are made and the new recommendations have been added on the 8th edition of Know-it-all passport® and it is on press at Imprimerie Nationale Rochat Baumann in Geneva right now! About 4 weeks of printing and 6 weeks of binding is what it takes during this 10 week-long process to bring you the quality item that you will keep on hand for the next two years. There are also two bookmarks on ribbons that are hand-inserted by a little old lady near Fribourg! Look out for it as of end-August this year in bookshops or pre-order via one of the distribution points for your copy hot-off-the-press!

Sporting the new blue color throughout, the cover is lifted with a touch of red as well. Click here to see the the evolution of the colors from the first edition.

There may come a time when you leave Geneva.  Many people come and go, but even those who may have had a tough time adjusting to the slower Geneva pace in the beginning, may be sad to leave.  After seven happy years in Geneva, my husband was transferred to his company’s New Jersey office.  Although I was excited to return to the US for a few years, I was also sad to leave.   Geneva had become our home.  We moved there with a 6 month old baby girl and left with two daughters, seven and five.  Once I reconciled myself with the new adventure, I snapped into action mode.  There are a lot of things that must be done before you leave Switzerland.  As I watch two good friends follow in my footsteps this year (one to Singapore and one to Korea), I decided to put together this list:

During the month of January 2012, the voirie will pick up your Christmas tree. Before your floor is littered with needles, make sure to drop it with your waste so that it is recycled!

Throughout the month of January 2012, the garbagemen will pick up your Christmas trees on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, at the same locations as household waste throughout Geneva.

The trees must be without decorations by the road between 5h and 6h30.

There is a new book out in English called  “Living along Lac Léman” by Catherine Nelson-Pollard, author and founder of the site www.livinginnyon.com.

The book is a light-hearted look at life along the shores of lake Geneva. It is a selection of columns which have been published for the last two years in English every Friday in La Côte newspaper - it is about the people, places and events in Vaud as seen through the eyes of a British expatriate.

Digital terrestrial television has been around in France since 2005, when the TNT (TélévisionNumérique Terrestre) came into service.

TNT offers a minimum of 18 free television channels, including the main existing terrestrial French television channels. By subscription, it is also possible to receive many other channels, including Canal+.

TNT does not give you access to UK television stations, for which you will need to buy and install a satellite dish!

The TNT service is already available to most of the population, although many households have chosen not to take it, preferring instead to remain with the analogue service.

Nevertheless, from the beginning of 2010 the analogue service has gradually been replaced, region by region, and will be switched off definitively by 30 November 2011.
