A new museum, which pays tribute to the life and work of Charlie Chaplin, will open this Sunday, 17th April, in the heart of the Vaud Riviera.

Created by the leading wax museum specialists, Grézin International, Chaplin’s World invites visitors to discover both the man and the artist - Charlie and Charlot (The Tramp) – through a series of thematic tours and studio presentations. Set within a four-hectare park, located in Corsier-sur-Vevey, the museum enjoys spectacular views over Lake Geneva and the Alps.

There are three main elements to Chaplin’s World:

  • His former home, the Manoir de Ban, which retraces the private and public life of this genius of the seventh art.
  • The Studio, a 1,350m² building inspired by Hollywood, which presents the cinematographic work of one the greatest artists of the 20th century.
  • A four-hectare park, which showcases hundred-year-old trees beloved by Charlie Chaplin and his family.

The next time you are looking for an interesting outing with sporty-minded kids or visitors, then give some thought to visiting the House of Basketball in Mies.

Know-it-all passport® editor, Lisa Cirieco-Ohlman visited the center and told us, After driving past this wonderful building with architecture like the net of a basketball hoop for the last 4 years, I finally realized that there is actually a museum open to the public as well. I took advantage of their weekday open hours to take my son and a friend for a tour. But think about going on a Wednesday afternoon if you find out about this after the holidays are over.

GWGworkshop1

The Geneva Writers Group (GWG) has just announced the launch of a new series of free workshops for teenagers, aged 13 to 18. The workshops will be held at Wall Street English on the Rue Michel-Roset in Geneva, and will take place monthly, on a Saturday from 10h to 11h15.

'Where do Ideas Come From?' will be the topic of the first workshop, which will be led by exciting new author, Nicholas Grey. A young adult fiction and fantasy writer, Nicholas has recently published The Wastelanders and The Lightbearer, as well as some short stories, and has a number of works in progress. Visit his website for more information : www.nicholasgrey.org.

Subsequent workshops will be taught by Nicholas and two other authors: Jason Donald, whose debut novel Choke Chain took the literary world by storm in 2009; and young adult writer, Katie Hayoz, whose books explore the paranormal.

ligniere boyswimming

If you have young children, then the chances are that they will at some point in their early childhood embark on a course of swimming lessons. But where should they go? If you ask around for recommendations among your friends, then you will start to see a common theme amongst the replies..."The water is too cold", "They don't speak English", or "The instructors won't even get in the water with our children!"

At La Lignière clinic in Gland, however, the swimming instructors at the Ecole de Natation have taken all these concerns on board, and are now offering private and small group lessons, which your children are likely to find infinitely more appealing!

Swimming instructor, Sarah Lailler, told knowitall.ch, "Since our pool is often being used for medical treatments, we keep the water temperature at 32 deg C every day.  There is also a jacuzzi that the children can use which is kept at 34 deg C! So the children want to come in the water, rather than shirking on the side of the pool because they feel cold!"
