A new initiative, called Trade School Geneva, will launch in Geneva next month, allowing students to barter with teachers for classes, which they may not otherwise be inclined to attend or able to afford.
Providing an experimental and innovative learning space, Trade School Geneva, will enable students to sign up for a class by agreeing to meet the barter requests of teachers. So a teacher offering a class on how to make butter, for example, may request anything from cookies and tea, through to household items or clothes, or even theater tickets. In many cases, the teachers ask for nothing more than a smile or a hug!
To mark the opening of this non-traditional learning initiative, Trade School Geneva will hold a launch party this evening at the Café Gavroche in Geneva. Everyone is welcome to come along and join the co-creators for a drink and some snacks, and find out more about this unique concept to arrive in Switzerland!
Léman Events has launched a new program dedicated to providing valuable education resources to the English-speaking community of Geneva and Vaud.
Called APRIL – EDUCATION month, this new platform will employ numerous methods to inform both parents and teachers about the various issues affecting children in education today.
A key benefit for subscribers will be the opportunity to receive twice-weekly blogs and regular newsletters on “hot” educational topics throughout the entire month of April, and into May. Other activities will also be available.

The editor behind this series of guidebooks, Lisa Cirieco-Ohlman, had been thinking about publishing other books under the same brand for some time but was waiting for just the right opportunity. This came about in 2011 when Denise Nickerson approached Lisa suggesting a separate book as a guide to schools, exclusively those that present courses in the English language. Both Lisa and Denise have given talks to curious parents in the area and the recurring question and answer sessions often turned to schooling. They both felt this was the right time and place to create Education Guide Switzerland.
