A new international school will open its doors in Morges this September.  Welcoming both international and local students, the LLIS Lake Leman International School will provide classes from Kindergarten (age 3 years) through to grade 5 (age 11 years), and will also offer a crèche for babies aged from 3 months upwards, operated by the LLIS partner, Cap Canaille.

The LLIS Secondary School will open the following academic year (2012/13), preparing students for the IGCSE and International Baccalaurate (IB).

Children in the primary school will follow the International Primary Curriculum (IPC), which provides an innovative approach to education in an international environment. It is based on a set of explicitly defined learning goals for every subject in the curriculum, for personal development, and for the development of “international mindedness”.  More details can be found on the IPC website.

children230Whilst English will be the main language of instruction, French will also taught to mother-tongue level.  All students, international and local, will get the chance to become fluent in both languages.  When the primary school opens in September, there will be a core staff of ten teachers, of which one will be a native French teacher.

Small class sizes will be a key feature of the new school, with 15 to 20 students per class.  When it opens in September, the school will have the capacity to take 150 students within its Kindergarten and Primary sections.  It will have the facility to expand even further when the secondary school opens the following year.  No decision has yet been made regarding the secondary year groups that will open in 2012 – the school has the flexibility to open several year groups at a time so the decision will depend on demand.

kaeserWith over 20 years international teaching experience, LLIS Director, Anna Kaeser, knows exactly what is required to develop the strengths and abilities of each of the children under her care.  Married with two young daughters of her own, she also understands all about parental expectations and the need for schools to be open, welcoming and dynamic. “At LLIS we aim to offer every child the opportunity to become confident, successful and socially responsible global citizens. Our dedicated and committed staff team will strive at all times to create a high quality environment in which every child can not only thrive but flourish – academically, emotionally, socially, physically and creatively. “

LLIS plans to offer a broad selection of extra-curricular activities and sports to complement the academic programme.  Gymnastics, Athletics, Soccer, Volleyball, Dance, Yoga, Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Drama, Creative art, Music lessons, Language clubs and Computer clubs are just some of the activities that children can hope to take part in when they join the school.  Individual tutoring and study buddy groups will also be provided for those who need them.

The school runs a full day programme from 8:00 to 17.00 (school hours from 8.45 to 15.30) including lunch service. The Cap Canaille crèche is located in the same place and is open from 6.30 to 18.30, five days a week, all year round.
