2000feuilles station
Inspiring program of activities for kids includes 4-day Easter camp for 3 to 6 year olds!

Students at the bilingual Montessori school, Deux Mille Feuilles, in La Rippe are feeling very happy with themselves!

Aged 3 to 6 years old, they have just been awarded a European Space Agency prize for a model they built of the International Space Station!

The model was created during after-school care sessions, when the children playfully explore STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) inspired themes. These include observations and scientific experiments to understand the world around them. During the course of 6 weeks they discovered the topic “Space”, learning about the solar system, how the sun influences our seasons, gravity and, of course, Rosetta and the space station.

School principal, Cornelia Tosch, told knowitall.ch, “The children worked on the model with passion, contributing to the project in accordance with their age. While the younger children colored the flags, the older ones designed the station. You could see from their faces how much they enjoyed this learning experience!”

Special discount for knowitall.ch readers attending upcoming portfolio workshop for students considering a career in design or architecture

Local artist and educator, Stephen Preece, has set up his own multi-purpose studio in Carouge. Called ESPACE 5, the new 100m2 studio will perform 3 main functions within the community.

Firstly, it will serve as a modern, newly decorated art gallery where invited artists can exhibit their work (click here for the next exhibition scheduled to take place at the gallery from 30 March to 6 April).  It will also serve as an attractive contemporary workspace (with meeting and kitchen facilities) for local businesses, which can be rented on an evening, daily or weekly basis for special events or workshops.

Secondly, it will provide a space that Stephen can use as his own personal art studio.  As a practising artist, who enjoys drawing, painting and working in 3D, Stephen has an impressive collection of artwork that he has produced since he decided to cut back on his teaching commitments and focus upon his own art, some of which is on display at his studio.  You can see a sample of his work on his personal website here: http://www.stephenpreece.net/.

Geneva English School has just announced the location of its new international secondary campus to be opened in September 2017.

Taking over a significant portion of the ground floor of the newly-built Modulis Business Park in Versoix, the campus will benefit from an ultra-modern, open-plan design that will inspire progressive learning within a state-of-the art environment.

Comparing the new location to the current primary campus in Genthod, headmaster Tim Meunier told knowitall.ch, “Geneva English School is one of the most highly respected primary schools in the region. Established in 1961, it has a strong tradition for providing a caring, community-oriented education that nurtures individual pupils and ensures that the personal and academic development of every child is met.”

He continued, “When we saw the new location for our secondary campus, we knew immediately that this was the perfect place for us to begin the development of the next phase of our school: a secondary campus which encompasses all the best qualities of our primary school, in particular its small-school ethos, but which takes advantage of all that a brand new building can offer in terms of 21st century learning.”
