ASC newteachers

As part of its current drive to recruit qualified and capable teachers for its children’s language courses, Key English School (KES) is offering free training to candidates who are able to sign up for a 2-year part-time teaching contract, starting in September!

In keeping with the school’s philosophy that "children learn best when they're having fun", applicants must be dynamic, friendly and positive. New members of the KES team are also expected to be flexible, responsible and hardworking. Successful candidates must, of course, enjoy teaching children, and be able to manage different levels of ability and a variety of activities in an action-packed lesson.

The free training course is intended for those without previous experience who wish to enter the profession and for teachers who wish to enhance their qualifications. Trainees will be continuously guided, monitored and assessed in all areas of the syllabus, including planning, classroom management and teaching skills, so that they will always feel encouraged and supported.

At the end of their training, successful candidates will receive an IH CTEFL – the International House Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language. Internationally recognized, this certificate is awarded by the International House World Organization, a global network of 160 schools in 52 countries, including ASC Education Group, parent company of Key English School. For newly qualified teachers, the certificate will open doors to an exciting and varied career in the global EFL industry, and will provide graduates with access to many teaching opportunities, not just those within the network of International House affiliated schools.

So what is special about this new recruitment drive? KES Director, Sarah Pralong, told knowitall.ch, “Our unique training course will allow teachers to work and train at the same time, so everything the participants learn can immediately be put into practice. As long as candidates are able to commit to a 2-year contract with us, working at least every Wednesday during the academic year, then they will receive all their training for free!”

Any candidates unable to complete the full 2 years of the contract will simply be asked to pay back a pro-rata portion of the training fees.  Candidates must be a least 18 years old at the start of the course and have a standard of education that would normally allow entrance to higher education in their country of origin.  They must also have an awareness of language and a competence in English, both written and spoken, which enables them to follow the course. However, they don't need to be native speakers to take the course, providing their level of English is suitably proficient. Pre-course tasks will be given to candidates before their place is confirmed.

Key English School is part of the ASC Education Group, which got its start in Geneva in 1974. As well as providing language training to the general public and to many of the region's leading companies and organisations, ASC IH plays an active part in educating children throughout Switzerland and in neighbouring France. Indeed, it was the first language school in French-speaking Switzerland to be awarded the Swiss EduQua certificate of quality in 2001 (most recently renewed in 2016).

Given the limited number of spaces on this new training programme, which starts in September, priority will be given to candidates who can demonstrate passion and enthusiasm for teaching both children and adults. However, much of the initial on-the-job training will be at the four local schools offering ASC Education Group’s new Wednesday PLUS English-language programme for kids, in Geneva, Vaud and neighboring France.

To apply for the training programme, candidates should send an email to Sarah Pralong at Key English School, including a CV and covering letter.
