Vincent Perez, speaking at the press conference on 3 September, 2015

First featured on our site last December when the school was in the final stages of construction (link to article), Le Régent Crans-Montana College is now ready to open its doors to students! From 14 September 2015, the new junior section of this British International School will welcome students aged 5 to 13, following the Year 1 to Year 9 UK syllabus (1st to 8th grade).

To mark this special occasion, the Junior School held a press conference yesterday morning on 3 September 2015, in the presence of numerous figures from the worlds of politics, tourism, industry, academia, and the third sector. They included the actor, producer, screenwriter and photographer, Vincent Perez; the artist and patron of the “Moi pour Toit” foundation, Laura Chaplin; and the National Councillor and President of the Board of Trustees of the International Institute for the Rights of the Child, Christophe Darbellay.

The press conference was just one in a series of events organized to thank everyone involved in the creation of the new school, and to help promote it to both the local and wider communities. On Saturday, 5 September, the Junior School will open its doors to the general public, with guided tours, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and further entertainment all part of the programme.

Situated at the heart of the Crans-Montana resort, the new school campus features purpose-built classrooms equipped with the very latest technology, and covers a total area of 17,000 square metres. The school will ultimately accommodate 306 children, of which two-thirds will be boarding students.

Didier Boutroux, Head Master of Le Régent Crans-Montana College

“Many people believed that we would start this school year with fewer than 10 pupils, which is understandable considering that, until this summer, we had only the building site to show to parents!” explained the school’s headmaster, Didier Boutroux. A false prediction as it turns out: when the school opens on 14 September, around 30 pupils will be taking a new route to school. A further 10 are expected to join in January 2016.

Once the Junior School has had time to establish itself, the Senior School is expected to open its doors in September 2016, welcoming day students and up to 150 boarders, aged between 13 and 18.

The new primary and secondary school will prepare its students for the International Baccalaureate and will complement the existing international academic study programmes in Crans-Montana offered by Les Roches International School of Hotel Management and the International Summer Camp Montana. “Crans-Montana has a lot to offer its residents in terms of quality of life, which is truly incomparable. This school will help to convince certain expats to move to the Haut-Plateau when their children are of school age, and probably even to stay there,” said the school’s president, Karim Sghaier.

Anyone unable to attend the upcoming Open Day on 5 September but interested in finding out more about Le Régent Crans-Montana College should contact Mary Sidebottom, Director of Admissions, to set up an appointment to visit the campus.
