Tickets now available for this unique “open air” derby, to be staged at the Stade de Genève on 11 January, 2014

Tickets are now on sale for the Winter Classic 2014 -  a unique occasion in the world of ice hockey in which players from the Genève-Servette Hockey Club and the Lausanne Hockey Club will come head to head in a classic derby, only the second of its kind to be staged in an open air football arena in Switzerland.

To encourage a wider audience for this match – and hopefully convert more supporters to this increasingly popular sport in Switzerland – there will be a special pre-match show, designed to draw the crowds.  The evening program will commence with a concert by the internationally-acclaimed local Geneva band, Stevans, who will also return at various points throughout the evening between periods.

In addition to the concert, the match will be preceded by a dazzling light show, certain to impress fans of all ages, and will conclude with a spectacular fireworks display! But the event doesn’t end there – after the match, celebrations will continue in La Praille’s Event Center, with a special “after-party” at which players from both teams will be present.  Tickets for this follow-on event will be available shortly.

As the owner and president of Geneva’s two major sports teams, the Genève-Servette Hockey Club, and Servette Football Club, Hugh Quennec has long held on to the hope that he would be able to stage an event of this kind at the Stade de Genève in La Praille.  The promotion of the Lausanne Hockey Club last Spring into the First Division of the Swiss Ice Hockey National League A created the perfect adversary for Geneve-Servette Hockey Club – so Hugh wasted no time in setting the wheels in motion!

Not only will Winter Classic 2014 be viewed by a potential audience of 30,000 spectators at the stadium, the match will also be broadcast live on Teleclub and RTS2.  In the event of extremely bad weather, the match will be postponed until the following day at 15h45.

Tickets for the match can be purchased from the Genève-Servette Hockey Club website at www.gshc.ch.  Athough most of the VIP seats have now been taken, there are still a number of seats available in the public area – even after the distribution of tickets to season ticket holders.  So there is absolutely no excuse to miss this spectacle, which is sure to draw crowds from all over Geneva, Vaud and beyond!

There is a huge range in ticket prices to suit all budgets.  The lowest-priced tickets start at Fr. 11.60, rising to Fr. 116.80 for premium leather seats. For Lausanne supporters, it also possible to purchase special train tickets, which include the price of the return ticket between Lausanne (as well as Malley, Renens, Morges, Rolle, Gland and Nyon) and Geneva’s stadium.
