A new company has just just been set up in Switzerland importing high quality, classic shoes for children from England and Spain.

Set up by Nyon-based mompreneur, Oriane de Castellane, Boni Classic will stock the popular Start Rite brand of shoes, well known in England for its long-lasting, durable footwear for kids, as well as its own brand of shoes made in Spain. In the future, the store will add a new Italian supplier of traditional children’s shoes, as well as a Spanish company specializing in riding boots.

Asked why she decided to set up her company in Switzerland, Oriane told knowitall.ch, “I had been trying for months to find good quality shoes for my own two boys. I even went to Paris, where I come from, in order to buy them.  I was really disappointed, though, when I finally went online and ordered a famous brand of shoes that I used to wear when I was a child, and discovered that they were made in China and lasted only 3 months, in spite of their elevated price tag!”

She continued,” As I spoke to other mothers, I soon realized that it was a common problem here – it’s really difficult to source traditional shoes of a classic design, made in Europe with leather! That’s when I decided to approach Start Rite, one of the most famous children’s shoemakers in the world, who agreed to let me market their brand through my own sales outlet, Boni Classic!”

At the moment, all Boni Classic shoes can be purchased through the company’s website, www.boniclassic.ch, or by visiting Oriane’s home near Nyon, where she has over 1700 shoes in stock!  For home visits, customers are requested to email Oriane or just give her a call at home to arrange an appointment, which is free to set up.  Whilst it is clearly better for children to try on the shoes if they can, the Boni Classic website includes measuring gauges that can be printed off and cut out at home, to help parents determine the correct size for their children.

The delivery charge for online orders is Fr. 9.-, unless the shoes cost more than Fr. 150.-, in which case it is free.  If the shoes don’t fit, they can be sent back and exchanged free of charge. Shoe sizes start at S2 (European size 17) and continue through to L8 (European size 42).

Oriane told knowitall.ch that she would really like to have a permanent store to which customers can bring their children, view the stock, and try on different shoes.  With this in mind, she is already in talks with a local organization based near Lausanne, and hopes to be able to make an announcement soon. In the meantime, she will continue to offer her shoes online and at her own home, and will, from time to time, organize one-off shoe sales at local establishments such as nurseries and schools.

Her first sale in the region will be held this Wednesday, 9 October at the Bac à Sable nursery school, 16 Chemin de la Bregantez, Genolier from 15h00 to 19h00. Click here for more information.
