For the third year running, the International Ski Federation (FIS) is organizing World Snow Day, a unique occasion in which children are encouraged to enjoy and explore the snow, whilst learning about the environment, the health benefits of snow activities, and safety on and off the snow.

Hundreds of ski resorts around the world will take part in the event, some offering ski equipment for free, as well as lift passes and other related activities, such as group ski and snowboarding lessons.

Verbier, Villars, Morgins, Les Diablerets, and Anzère are just a few of the local Swiss stations that will be getting involved in this year’s event, whilst in France you can expect to find activities in popular resorts such as Chamonix and Megève.

Whilst World Snow Day officially takes place on Sunday, 19 January,2014,  many of the resorts will be holding special activities on the Saturday before as well.  France Montagne in Megève, for example, will be hosting the Féte du Ski et de la Neige on the 18 January, offering a day of fun snow-based activities for both beginners and experienced skiers.

The Fête de la Raquette à Neige in La Croisette is another, more local event on the Salève, taking place on 19 January, where participants will have the opportunity to build their own igloo, trek through the woods and much more. If you don’t have your own snow shoes you can rent them for the day for only €5.  The cost is just €3 per activity. Click here for more information.

To find out more about the events of the day, and to view the full list of participating ski stations near you, visit: www.world-snow-day.com and click on the Event Locator.  Select the Swiss or French flag and choose your preferred ski station to see what activities they have planned. Events vary significantly between the different resorts, so you are advised to check the website first before heading out.
