A new cookery school has just opened in Nyon, offering a wide variety of culinary workshops, in both French and English.

Conveniently located in the new arcade opposite the Nyon cinema, Les Papilles à la Fête, is offering classes for aspiring chefs of all ages, at times that should suit everyone from moms with kids, through to busy professionals.

Asked why she decided to set up the new school, Céline Chevalley told knowitall.ch, “As a trained chef, I have always been passionate about cooking, and am always looking for new ways in which to share my recipes and skills with others, especially young children. My philosophy is simple: people should be able to learn to cook in a way that enables them to reproduce one of my recipes at home.”

Over the past few months we have been receiving a number of tempting invitations to join qualified wine expert, Simon Hardy of Fitting Wines, at a series of Wine Tasting Adventures to discover great-tasting wines from around the world.

Each wine-tasting event, which is open to the general public, has a special theme covering anything from “Revealing Red with a Difference” and “The Diverse World of Chardonnay” through to “Great Sparkling Wines of the World” and “Exceptional Wines to Distinguish your Cellar”. Venues at each end of the lake vary from the intimate Caveau Orpheus in Lutry and the striking wine cellar at the Mercedes-Benz / Bentley Garage Beau-Rivage in Lausanne to a private vaulted cellar beneath the bastions in Geneva. Each event lasts for three hours and includes a guided tasting of all the wines lasting at least one hour. Guests have the opportunity to learn more about each of the wines, the regions and the grape varieties as well as to find out which wines make the best match for which foods. What’s more, you can keep trying any of the wines as often and as much as you like!

Edible images for personalizing your cakes are becoming all the rage in the Switzerland.  If you want to personalize your cake but don’t have the time or skill to decorate it yourself, then it is now possible to send your photo to an edible image maker, who will make an icing photo out of your image that can be used to adorn your cake.

As one of the first suppliers of edible images in Switzerland, local image maker Gât-Oh! likes to remain one step ahead of its competitors, and has nearly 20 different formats within its standard product range. Set up in Founex, by local mom, Gabrielle Lytras, Gât-Oh! has received orders from over 1200 customers since it first launched in 2008.

A new company has been launched in Geneva, that will help busy workers and their families save time in the kitchen, and rediscover the joy of cooking and eating healthy, balanced meals.

Just Cook It is the brainchild of two finance professionals, Gaël Juranville and Romain Cosandey, who, until the end of last year, were working long hours for a large multinational company in Geneva.  Realising they never had time to indulge in their passion for cooking, and buy the fresh foods they needed to cook appetizing meals for themselves, their friends and their family, the two colleagues decided to address the problem by launching their own catering service in Geneva.

However, unlike most traditional catering services, where meals are prepared and delivered to your door, Just Cook It clients are expected to do their own cooking!  What Just Cook It does best is to source locally produced fresh goods and deliver exact, pre-measured quantities to their clients, according to the carefully planned recipes that they have selected from their website.

We’ve featured a lot of cake suppliers on our site, so when someone recommended a new cake designer to us recently, I had a pretty good idea of what to expect. Or so I thought.

Nothing prepared me for the overwhelming array of custom-designed cakes, produced by Laura Moser, an up-and-coming pastry and cake designer, based in Geneva. The cakes are so exquisite that it really seems a shame to eat them! With designs ranging from racing cars and Disney characters for children, through to intricate flowers, a vegetable patch, and even a wine bottle for adults (which looks so real you could almost mistake it for the real thing), it seems there is nothing that Laura can’t replicate in cake form!

Even Laura’s “Classic Cakes” selection is something to behold.  Whilst the cakes are baked to a standard circular or square format, the designs on the top are quite unique and are beautifully detailed, with images of flower pots, pandas, ladybugs, and Tellytubbies, to name but a few. It’s no surprise, then, when you browse through the many photos of cupcakes, cookies and treats that she also produces, to find that each one is a work of art on its own.  The tennis balls and tennis racquets selection are certainly my favorite! The beetles are also really cute!
