If your child is interested in science, and wants to find out more about the world we live in, then they are certainly not alone!

A number of workshops are now being set up in the region, to help children indulge their fascination in this broad-ranging subject, which covers everything from recycling through to nuclear physics!

One club that has been running for a number of years now, but which is moving to new premises in La Rippe is the Science workshop at Anhugar school for gifted children.  Open to children aged between 5 and 15 years old, these workshops run throughout the Vaud school term on Wednesdays between 2 and 5 pm. With help from experts in subjects such as DIY, gardening, biology, chemistry, geology and physics, the workshops cover a wide range of extra-curricular topics with strong ties to science.  Both theory and practice are covered in the sessions, which are run in French and in English, and also include trips to local museums and other places of scientific interest. Click here for more information on this club, and click here to see what has been covered in previous workshops at the school.

In nearby Nyon, a new club has also been recently launched by Linnann Muhlemann, a science teacher with over 10 years experience, and who has an enthusiastic, hands-on approach to science that encourages lively discussion between her students. Taking place during this term only, on Wednesday afternoons or Tuesday after school, Linnann’s Science Club for Kids is open to children aged 10 to 13, no matter what their ability, but who have a reasonable working knowledge of English.  One mother told us about the club, “My daughter loves to go to Linnann's science class. She says she is learning a lot and at the same time having fun.” Click here for more information.

If your child doesn’t have time during the school term to indulge his or her interest for science, then the Science Alive! Summer Science and Language Camp in Blonay may be just what you’re looking for.  Organized by the Ecole Chantermerle in Blonay, in partnership with the award-winning Irish education company, www.anyone4science.com, this residential camp provides a dual immersion experience for students, who have the opportunity to experience two weeks of fun, investigative, hands-on science in either English or French.

Taking place at the school in Blonay, from 21 July to 4 August 2013, this 2-week camp is open to all children aged between 12 and 16, who have a good command of the foreign language in the track they choose. Campers will receive 24 hours of workshops, experiments, projects and demonstrations, covering subjects ranging from the simulation of microbe contamination and the building of solar ovens, through to crime scene investigations and rocketry. There is also an attractive package of after-class activities including sport, overnight and outdoor adventures, creative workshops, and even a 2-day trip to Europa-Park! Click here for more information and here for online registration.

All of these camps are featured on our Activities Calendar, which features weekly classes and holiday camps for children covering all interests ranging from sport and outdoor pursuits through to music, languages, and crafts. If you would like us to include details of a new camp on our Calendar, please fill in this form and we’d be happy to post them on the site!
