croppedtulipsThe Tulip Festival (no admission charge) lasts six weeks and presents 100,000 tulips of 300 varieties in the Parc de l'Indépendance in Morges. The diversity of these banks of flowers remind fans of the tulip’s huge range of shapes and colours.

The first varieties are in bloom in mid-April. They are a great attraction for families who thus inaugurate the first lakeside outing of the year. Small weekend concerts are regularly organised at the music kiosk. Drinks and snacks are available on site.

As the Tulip Festival was created on the occasion of the 50 years of the Lake Geneva Horticultural Society in 1971, the horticulture apprentices of the Morges Centre for Professional Studies create several banks of flowers every year.

Parc de l’Indépendance is a magnificent site with several monuments and remarkable trees at the mouth of river Morges, which recall the celebrations in 1898, the date of the independence of the Lake Geneva Region.

From mid-April to mid-May 2011
The blooming is influenced by the seasonal weather.

Free access daily at any time to the park.

Drinks and meals under the canteen tent from 9th April to 15th May.

Parc de l’Indépendance:

Situated near Lake Geneva, between the Castle of Morges and the river “La Morges”, the Parc de l’Indépendance offers, in every season, a wonderful green surrounding and presents 50 varieties of trees such as impressive chestnut trees dated from 1750 or giant sequoias.

It is situated only a few meters from the historical city center, the dock, the restaurants, and shops.

Floral clumps:

The floral show boasts 150'000 bulbs of 200 varieties of tulips belonging to diverse living species (simple, double, triumph, fringe, viridiflora, parrot, hybrid and pluriflore) in over a surface area of 30'000 square meters. In order to extend the flowering period, the assortment contains also some early and late tulips. You can also admire other flowers like narcissus and hyacinth among the tulips.

Istanbul:

For the 2nd year, the town Istanbul has offered 35’000 bulbs to the Tulip Festival in Morges, where a special bed of flowers has been planted at the East entrance of the park. A floral clump representing the Castle of Morges has also been created in the park of Emirgan, for the tulip festival in Istanbul. www.istanbulunlalesi.com

Every year, a contest is organized between the apprentices studying at the professional teaching centre of Morges, in Marcelin (CEPM). A dozen of their projects are chosen and planted. A hundred apprentices and the horticulturists of the City of Morges are responsible for the plantation of the bulbs mid-October.tulipfestival2
