daretoglow colours

Article by Carolina Rodriguez Barros, www.daretoglow.com

I have to say, my clients are so brave and courageous to open up their wardrobes! I am so proud of them!

I have seen many incredible collections .... and many others that are disempowering and boring.

Last month I was coaching an executive woman who needed to take more space in the office, to bring power and energy to her message and ideas - another remarkable executive woman who needed to soften up her interpersonal communication and to create authentic professional relationships. Sometimes we arrive at a point were we find ourselves in a rut, without direction and inspiration. Here is where I come in to facilitate transformation.

There is one secret to a remarkable and unforgettable element for a compelling presence in business (and life in general) that women are definitely underusing - but are starting to recognize its power: color.

Color is a powerful tool in non-verbal communication: it helps you to convey your message, to take your space in the board room as a woman,

Many of my clients have a professional wardrobe based in black and grey “because they are easy and go with everything”. To one extent this is true, but it is also true that these are energy draining and uninspiring colors. So let me briefly introduce you to color meanings and how you can wear or use them to bring sparkle, inspiration and energy into your life and communication and relationships:

  • Red : ready to take action, power, confident, alive, passionate
  • Orange : warmth, healthy, optimism, sunny, social communication, stimulates creativity
  • Yellow : happy, confidence, stimulates mental activity and intellect
  • Green : balance, harmony, encourages tolerance and understanding, loyalty and integrity
  • Blue : deep and peaceful, stimulates communication
  • Indigo : relaxing, intuition, higher mind, idealism
  • Purple : calming for body and mind, imagination, purpose, dignity, awareness, purifying
  • Fuschia : dynamism, femininity, strength, emotional balance, practical
  • Brown : grounding, trust, support, serious, “down to earth”
  • Turquoise: communication and clarity, fresh, light
  • White : perfection, purity, wholeness, completion, oneness
  • Black : invites for reflection and introspection, constructing a shield with the outer world, grief, dark, unknown, mystery
  • Grey : transition, compromise (neither black nor white)
  • Silver : femininity, the moon, fluid, emotional, sensitive and mysterious
  • Gold : success, achievement, prestige, sophistication

Color also has healing properties that can support you emotionally, give you (and the viewer) energy and uplift your mood - it can ground you along your day. This is specially important for women, whose dynamic and cyclic natures make their experience a variety of inward/outward energies during the month. By paying attention to your energy, mood and agenda you can use color to help you give the best of yourself, and make the most of every day.

What is the dominant color of your favorite painting?
What are the colors of your favorite season?
What color makes you feel the best in yourself?

Then, wear more of them!
