An additional 20% discount for each new friend you bring along (see conditions below)!

A new photographic club has just been set up for the English-speaking community of Geneva.

Launched officially in March 2015, the new Geneva Photo Club provides a range of training courses for amateur photography enthusiasts, including beginner classes for owners of DSLR or equivalent cameras, training sessions on how to take better photos with a smartphone, and street photography workshops. The club also plans to introduce shortly more advanced courses for portrait/studio photography, night/landscape photography, and software training for Adobe’s Lightroom and Photoshop. Click here for more detailed course descriptions.

Running the Geneva Photo Club are 3 Geneva-based photographers: Oguzhan (Osan) Altun, a freelancer specializing in landscape, beauty, and portrait photography; Eugene Theodore, an experienced international reportage and fashion photographer; and Jeremy Spierer, an awarded freelancer specializing in street photography. You can find more information on each of the photographers on the club website here.

Asked why they decided to set up a photographic club in Geneva, Oguzhan told knowitall.ch, “With a shared passion for photography, we felt that a team of photographers could offer a more diverse set of skills compared to some of the workshops currently offered in Geneva by photographers working alone, most of whom are French-speaking.  By combining our resources, we felt we could offer English-speakers not just the opportunity to attend photography lessons in and out of the classroom, but also a wealth of activities such as photo walks in Geneva, workshops with famous photographers, trips to various European locations shooting with professionals, and photography competitions with prizes from sponsors.”

Eugene added, “What makes us really special, however, is our commitment to deliver immediate improvement for our clients. During our training sessions, we show how to get results, with the minimum of background theory. So, for example, if we are out shooting, we show clients how to blur the background instead of talking for half an hour about apertures and depth of fields etc. This way, our students see an improvement in their photography immediately, which creates the passion to learn more. This positive spiral is crucial especially in the beginning.“

He continued, “We are so confident about our teaching methods that we offer money-back guarantees for anyone who feels they have not seen improvement by the end of a course. We also focus on improving our students' photography based on their current equipment, instead of convincing them to buy more and more cameras and lenses. This way they can’t fall into the trap that many beginners fall into, thinking that they can improve with more expensive equipment. We believe that every camera or lens purchase should be intentional, for a specific photographic need.”

Jeremy added, “To encourage our students to return, we offer additional future discounts for clients who would like to improve their photography further. We also offer beautifully-printed gift vouchers for anyone wishing to offer one of our courses as a gift.”

If you’re still not sure whether to take the plunge and book a course, this is what one recent client had to say about her experience on a Geneva Photo Club course, “I attended a beginners weekend photography course by Geneva Photo Club with my husband and we were really happy with it. It was well prepared - showing us exactly what to do to get professional effects without spending too much time on theory. Oguzhan was our teacher and he didn't only show us how to use our camera, but he also showed us how to take better pictures in general regardless of the camera, which we appreciated a lot.”

She concluded, “I wasn't initially sure how much difference a few hours of training could make, but indeed it does make a big difference! I am now much more deliberate while using my camera (both DSLR and my phone) and my photos are much better than before. Finally, Oguzhan is really friendly and passionate about photography, which makes him a good and fun instructor to have!”
