Enter our competition: 10 double tickets to be won!

In 2013, we announced the launch of Ciné 17, a small, luxury cinema in the heart of Geneva screening original version, English-language films only. Needless-to-say, this was very welcome news for the English-speaking community, who have struggled for years to see the latest films at the same time as they are released to the rest of the world!

Given the huge success of Ciné 17, the owners, proCITEL SA, have now taken it upon themselves to restore the CINERAMA EMPIRE (first built in 1967) to its former glory and offer yet more English-language films to the international community! Ideally located on the Rue de Carouge in Geneva, a cultural area well served by public transport, the new cinema opened to the public last November and is screening, like Ciné17, original-language films only.  Whilst the vast majority of these films are English-language, there will be a few showings of major French productions scheduled in 2016.

When knowitall.ch spoke to Didier Zuchuat, Président de l'Association des Intérêts de la Corraterie and Chairman of the Board at proCITEL, he was clearly very enthusiastic about the new cinema! He told us,

“The CINERAMA EMPIRE is the only cinema in Geneva to be fitted with the very latest, ultra high resolution 4K digital projector, and is therefore perfect for screening the very latest blockbusters in either 2D or 3D on its giant curved panoramic screen. Since November, we have already featured 007 SPECTRE, BRIDGE OF SPIES, THE HATEFUL EIGHT, THE REVENANT, STAR WARS VII, and POINT BREAK and coming soon we will have BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN in breathtaking 3D!”

He continued, “To make sure there is not too much overlap, Ciné 17 will show slightly more cultural films such as JOY, MACBETH, THE DANISH GIRL, CAROL and (coming soon) SPOTLIGHT and BROOKLYN.  It will also be the only place in Geneva where you can expect to see every weekend during the year, and every afternoon during the holidays, English-language family films such as PEANUTS 3D, ALVIN & CHIPMUNKS #4 and (coming soon) ZOOTOPIA 3D and ICE AGE 5 3D.”

CINERAMA Empire is a much larger cinema than Ciné 17 and seats 323 + 4 (disabled) people comfortably on 2 levels. On the top Gallery level you have 22 numbered luxury sofas able to seat up to 2 people each, and priced at Fr. 45.- per sofa (reduced price of Fr. 40.-).  On the bottom Orchestra level, the tickets for the 279 armchairs are more competitively priced at Fr.15.- per person (or Fr. 12.50 reduced price). There is also a small Fr. 2.50 supplement to add for films screened in special formats not available elsewhere (4K, CineBright 3D, DATASAT 7.1). At Ciné 17, visitors can expect a more cosy, but luxurious ambiance, with 81 + 1 (disabled) numbered, leather reclinable armchairs, priced at Fr. 20.- for early shows screened before 18h (or Fr. 15.- reduced price), and Fr. 25.- for evening shows starting after 6pm (or Fr. 20.- reduced price).

Didier added, “We will not screen dubbed movies at either of our cinemas so visitors can expect the full English experience for all our English-language films. Indeed, both the cinemas are staffed by English-speaking people, so you don’t actually need to have any knowledge of French to watch our films! It is also possible to book assigned seats online or in advance at both box offices – so you know exactly what to expect when you arrive, at least in terms of the seating arrangements. In fact, our service levels are likely to exceed your expectations, as both our cinemas feature licensed bars where you can relax before your show and order yourself a drink or snack to take into the cinema with you later.

competitionbutton1As a special promotion to our readers, Didier is kindly offering to run a competition on our site to win one of 10 double tickets to see any show of your choosing in the gallery of the new CINERAMA EMPIRE until 30 April 2016.  To enter the competition, just fill in this form and let us know in which year the CINERAMA EMPIRE was first built. Only one entry per person and per email is allowed. The competition closes at midnight on Wednesday, 24 February 2016. The names of all those submitting correct answers will be placed into the digital hat and the winner’s names drawn at random on Thursday, 25 February 2016. The winners will be notified by email and their names will be added to this article after the competition closes.
