skiservice

As the ski season approaches, it's time to start thinking about getting your skis serviced. Don't leave it to the last minute - if you do, you'll probably find yourself standing in endless ski maintenance queues whilst your friends are out on the slopes having fun.

To make the job easier for you, Leave it to Me and Williams Services have come together to offer skiers from the Geneva area a unique and personalised experience.

Leave it to Me is a Geneva-based company that, amongst many other things, offers a concierge service to help busy individuals and families spend time on the things they really want to do. Also based in Geneva, Williams Services installs satellites and TVs and offers handyman services too.

The American International Women’s Club of Geneva has just published a new guide to skiing in the region.

Called “Think Ski” the new 181-page guidebook tells you all you need to know about downhill and cross country skiing at 21 of the most popular local resorts, some of them on our doorstep and others no more than a few hours' drive away.

Written and beautifully illustrated by local author, Eleanor Ormiston, the book is packed with all kinds of tips to ensure everyone, skiers and non-skiers alike, can make the most of their outings to the local ski slopes.

In France, these include ski stations in the Jura, resorts in the Mont Blanc region such as Megève, Combloux and Chamonix, and resorts in the Portes du Soleil and Avaris regions. Several well-known ski areas in Switzerland are also included.

For the third year running, the International Ski Federation (FIS) is organizing World Snow Day, a unique occasion in which children are encouraged to enjoy and explore the snow, whilst learning about the environment, the health benefits of snow activities, and safety on and off the snow.

Hundreds of ski resorts around the world will take part in the event, some offering ski equipment for free, as well as lift passes and other related activities, such as group ski and snowboarding lessons.

Verbier, Villars, Morgins, Les Diablerets, and Anzère are just a few of the local Swiss stations that will be getting involved in this year’s event, whilst in France you can expect to find activities in popular resorts such as Chamonix and Megève.

And book your family ski lessons now!

With the Summer holidays now behind us, it is time to start preparing for the ski season – yes, really! As the season approaches, knowitall.ch will try and keep you posted on all the latest recommendations as they are sent in to us.

The first of these comes from Ski Pros Megève, a popular English ski school located in the village of Megève, and which has featured a number of times on our site in the past.  Founder, Mike Beaudet, has just sent us details of his "Early Bird” ski trips, running in Cervinia-Zermatt between 1st of November and 15 December, 2012.   More details can be found in the article we featured last year on the site, but, in a nutshell, these are excellent, "long weekend" 2, 3, 4 and 5 day "tune-up" trips to the Italian and Swiss Alps at 3380 meters, which can be scheduled around your availability and desires. “Late Spring” trips between 15 April and 5 May, 2013, can also be arranged along the same lines.

For those of you that live close to Megève (and that includes anyone living in or around Geneva since Megève is just an hour’s drive from the airport), Ski Pros Megève will continue to offer its popular weekend programs for kids and adults as of mid December, or earlier if the ski area is open. This is a great opportunity to get the family out in the fresh air and learn to become "great" skiers in a season.
