Enter our competition to win one of 5 double tickets being offered by Ciné 17 to knowitall.ch clients

Written by DreamWorks Pictures and directed by Bill Condon, THE FIFTH ESTATE is a dramatic new thriller based on real events in which WikiLeaks founder, Julian Assange, (played by Benedict Cumberbatch) and his colleague, Daniel Domscheit-Berg, (played by Daniel Brühl) team up to become underground watchdogs of the privileged and powerful.

On a shoestring, they create a platform that allows whistle-blowers to anonymously leak covert data, shining a light on the dark recesses of government secrets and corporate crimes.  But when Assange and Berg gain access to the biggest trove of confidential intelligence documents in U.S. history, they battle each other and give rise to one of the most defining questions of our time: what are the costs of keeping secrets in a free society, and what are the costs of exposing them?

Ciné17 offers 10 double tickets to see FROZEN 3D from 4 December, 2013

When Ciné17 first offered us 10 double tickets for our clients to see the latest animated fairy tale from Disney, we were obviously extremely grateful. However, we didn’t immediately appreciate how lucky we were until we started reading the blurb they sent us!

Not only is FROZEN being projected in amazing 3D, but it is the first Disney movie to be shown in widescreen CinemaScope format since Sleeping Beauty – and Ciné17 is the only cinema in Geneva to be fitted with a screen that allows non-truncated pictures to be displayed in their original ration of 2.40:1.  So if you want to enjoy the full glory of Disney’s latest animated extravaganza, then Ciné17 is really THE place to go and see it!

Based on Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale, The Snow Queen, FROZEN is packed with lots of contemporary attitudes and female empowerment touches that will appeal to both little girls and their moms.  Energetic and funny, this musical animation is the first of its kind to warn of global cooling rather than warming, and includes some great vocal performances from stars such as Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel.

In response to our request for more suitable films in English for our kids, Ciné17 in Geneva is offering lots of free tickets for knowitall.ch clients to go and see English-language films at their cinema!

Unable to source the original version of PLANES for us (following Disney's decision to allow only French- and German-dubbed versions of the film to be shown in Switzerland), the Ciné 17 management team have kindly offered to give us 10 double tickets to see the return performance of DESPICABLE ME 2, one of the most successful animated feature films to be screened in 2013.  In this popular sequel to DESPICABLE ME, the former villain, Gru, is trying to earn an honest living making jam, but is recruited by the Anti-Villain League to help deal with a powerful new super criminal.

The film is currently showing in English, in 3D, at 2.15pm on Saturdays, and 10.30am and 2.15pm on Sundays, and will be extended to matinées only on Saturdays and Sundays between 16 November and 1 December, 2013, at 10.30 am.  This is a unique chance to catch this excellent film on the big screen, or see it again, before it is withdrawn from theatrical distribution. Read our article to find out more about Ciné 17, undoubtedly one of the plushest cinemas in Geneva and which reopened just a few months ago, following a major refurbishment.

A new luxury cinema will re-open in the center of Geneva this month.

Located on the premises of the former Astor Filmlounge, the new Ciné 17 will open to the public on Thursday, 16 May 2013. Having been refurbished following an unexpected flood, the cinema is now under new management, but will retain many of the luxurious features of the former cinema.

Visitors to the 81-seated cinema can expect to enjoy the same comfortable leather chairs with adjustable backs, each with their own side table for placing drinks. A wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails can be ordered from the cinema bar, along with a refined selection of hot and cold snacks.

The new cinema will re-open its doors for the first time since February 2012 with a screening of “The Great Gatsby”, starring Leonardo di Caprio and directed by Baz Luhrmann.  This movie will also be shown at the same time on the opening night of the Filmfestival in Cannes. At Ciné 17, it will be shown in English only (with French subtitles), in both 2D and 3D versions.
