There is a surprise in store at the Visions du Réel Avant-Première being held this Thursday evening! To kick off the 47th edition of Visions du Réel, Festival international de cinéma Nyon, the public is invited to a screening full of humour with the fantastic Jesus Town, USA (free entry). On the following day, the official opening of the Festival will be attended in particular by Guy Parmelin, Federal Councillor and Anne-Catherine Lyon, Member of the Cantonal Council of Vaud. The opening film, Presenting Princess Shaw, will highlight an encounter worthy of a fairy tale between a talented but unknown young woman from New Orleans and a web musician from the other side of the world.

Avant-Première — Thursday 14 April, free entry: the truculent Jesus Town, USA
What exactly do we expect from an actor who slips into Jesus’ sandals and embodies the mysteries of the Christian faith? This is the question asked, with much humour, by the documentary comedy Jesus Town, USA. “This film, that shakes up preconceptions, is a delightful example of today’s documentary filmmaking”, enthuses Luciano Barisone, Director of Visions du Réel. Billie Mintz, one of the two directors, will be present for a discussion with the audience. The Avant-Première and the reception following the screening will be hosted by the Municipality of Nyon and Visions du Réel.

Thursday 14 April at 19.30, Théâtre de Marens, Nyon. Second screening at the Salle Communale in Nyon at 20:00

Opening Ceremony — Friday 15 April: a modern-day Cinderella
“A genuine contemporary fairy tale that makes us carry on believing in miracles!” That is how Luciano Barisone sums up Visions du Réel’s opening film, Presenting Princess Shaw. This documentary bears witness to an encounter between a young unknown You Tuber from New Orleans and a great artist who arranges her songs with other clips unearthed online. This documentary will be screened in the presence of the director Ido Haar, during the Festival’s official opening ceremony, on Friday 15 April. It will also be screened during the opening ceremony for the Gland programme on Saturday 16 April.

Friday 15 April at 19.30, Théâtre de Marens, Nyon. A second screening will be available at the Salle Communale in Nyon at 20:00 if the first screening proves too popular.  It is also the opening ceremony film for the Gland programme on Saturday 16 April at 20.15, Théâtre de Grand-Champ, Gland.
